MAC Mobility

The EVPN MAC Mobility feature facilitates the seamless relocation of MAC addresses across multiple sites or data centers. This capability is crucial for use cases such as Virtual Machine (VM) migrations, load balancing, and disaster recovery. By employing BGP to distribute MAC address location information, EVPN ensures that devices can move with minimal disruption, automatically updating their MAC addresses throughout the network. This offers significant operational advantages in large-scale, distributed network environments.
In our tests, we configured full-mesh unicast traffic with 1 MAC traversing all the DUTs in the topology. We observed that the BGP EVPN RT-2 sequence number increased after each move, and there was no loss of traffic when forwarding to or from the moved MAC address.
Spirent TestCenter was used as the traffic generator for this test.
