7 Layer 2 and layer 3 (L2 and L3) services are widely used and deployed in service providers and data center environments as they provide network segmentation and isolation for specific traffic types or customers. Automating the provisioning of L2 and L3 services helps save time and improves reliability and consistency. NETCONF, with its model-driven YANG language, is an effective protocol for automating the provision of services. In this year's testing, we conducted multiple test scenarios focusing on EVPN and covering the provisioning of L2 point-to-point (VPWS), L2 multipoint (VPLS), and L3 VPNs. The models used in the service provisioning were mostly IETF and vendor-specific models. In some instances, parts of the configurations, such as the interfaces, were derived from the OpenConfig standardized models.
8 The general test procedure was as follows.
9 *. Establish and verify the NETCONF session between the controller and the network node
10 *. Push the service configuration using NETCONF to the network nodes
11 *. Verify successful provisioning using ICMP for L3VPNs or check the correct service configuration for L2 service on the devices
