When customers require a dedicated connection between 2 sites over the Internet—such as linking a branch office to headquarters—they need a solution that makes the sites appear locally connected. E-line services fulfill this need. RFC 8214 specifies support for Virtual Private Wire Service (VPWS) within Ethernet VPN (EVPN) networks. VPWS offers customers a Layer 2 point-to-point connection. When combined with EVPN, VPWS inherits EVPN’s redundancy and load-balancing features when multi-homing is enabled. |

EANTC conducted tests using Ostinato and Keysight IxNetwork to generate end-to-end unicast traffic, confirming there was no packet loss under normal conditions. Load balancing is performed correctly across all multihomed devices configured in all-active mode. To evaluate failover, we disabled the interface between the PE and CE in the multihomed DUT group. This resulted in brief packet loss, but traffic resumed within three seconds, aligning with expected behavior. |
