EVPN is a mature technology that has been thoroughly tested by EANTC over multiple years and is widely deployed in data center (DC) networks. For the control plane, EVPN uses BGP as the overlay protocol. It leverages ISIS as the underlay for SR-MPLS deployments and eBGP as the underlay for VXLAN environments. BGP provides scalability in DC networks and supports interoperability with various underlay transport technologies, including SR-MPLS, SRv6, and VXLAN. EVPN enables the interconnection of multiple Layer 2 domains across different DC networks over the Internet. Additionally, with Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB), Layer 3 domains can be interconnected. |
